Product Description
Many mares exhibit more sensitive behavior at certain times—especially during natural hormonal fluctuations or seasonal changes. During these times, some may be more alert, restless, or less focused. Behaviors such as tail swishing, bucking, laying their ears back, or biting may also occur more frequently. These reactions are completely natural and reflect the mare’s biological sensitivity—but they can sometimes pose a challenge in everyday stable life.
Mare Active was developed to specifically support daily feeding during such sensitive phases. The carefully formulated combination of vitamins, amino acids, chasteberry, and ashwagandha effectively supplements the diet—ideal for the relaxed management of sensitive horses and for supporting the nervous system.
Nutritional supplement for mares and geldings experiencing:
• increased sensitivity or inner restlessness
• training challenges due to reduced attention, nervousness, or restlessness under saddle
• tension or social unrest within the herd
Geldings and stallions may also go through phases in which they react particularly sensitively to their environment. Typical observations include a low stimulus threshold, frequent calling, distractibility, or pronounced dominance behavior—especially in changing group dynamics or when strongly attached to mares. In such moments, targeted nutritional support can promote Well-being improve focus in everyday life.

Suitable for horses of all ages—whether used for leisure or sport—as part of a balanced, needs-based feeding regimen.

Ingredients

St. John's Wort

St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) is traditionally used in animal feed. It can support general well-being and nervous system balance through nutritional means. St. John's wort is used as a supplement, particularly for hormone-related restlessness, such as that which can occur in mares during estrus.

Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) is a water-soluble B vitamin naturally found in grains, yeasts, and herbs. It supports normal energy metabolism and is involved in physiological functions of the nervous system and muscles. An appropriate supply can be particularly beneficial during high exertion.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a traditionally used plant extract with a natural content of phytochemicals. In horse feeding, Ashwagandha is used as a supplement to provide nutritional support for the nervous system and overall well-being – especially for older, sensitive, or hormonally challenged horses. An appropriate supply can support inner balance during periods of increased stress or transition.

Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) is a water-soluble B vitamin naturally found in yeast, grains, and green plants. It is a component of central enzymatic processes in energy metabolism that are essential for the energy supply and stimulus processing of nerve cells.
These same metabolic processes are also involved in cell regeneration and affect tissues with a high renewal rate, such as skin and hoof horn.

Sage

Sage leaves contain natural phytochemicals and essential oils such as thujone and cineol. In equine nutrition, sage is traditionally to support respiratory health, digestion, and overall Well-being —especially in cases of diet-related stress or in dusty environments.

Chasteberry

Chasteberry (Vitex agnus-castus) is a traditional forage plant rich in phytochemicals. In equine nutrition, it is used as a supplement—particularly for older horses or mares going through hormonally sensitive phases—to support overall well-being and metabolism.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is an essential B vitamin naturally found in yeast, grains, and plant-based feeds. It is involved in normal amino acid and fatty acid metabolism and contributes to the physiological function of the nervous system and liver.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) is an essential B vitamin found in significant amounts only in animal components like fermented feeds or yeast. It is involved in normal energy metabolism and contributes to the physiological function of the nervous system. Targeted supplementation can be particularly beneficial for older horses or those under high stress.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is an essential B vitamin naturally found in yeast, grains, and plant-based feeds. It supports normal energy metabolism and can nutritionally assist the physiological processes in the nervous system. An adequate supply also contributes to the normal function of skin, muscles, and digestion.

Magnesium chloride

Magnesium chloride provides bioavailable magnesium – an essential mineral and a crucial component in a horse's electrolyte balance. Magnesium is involved in numerous physiological processes, especially in neuromuscular function and energy metabolism. An adequate supply can contribute to the support of the nervous system, muscles, and recovery – particularly during periods of increased demand, stressful situations, or during recovery.

Biotin

Biotin plays a role in numerous metabolic processes, including those related to normal hormone function. It supports energy metabolism and helps ensure the smooth coordination of hormonally regulated processes in the body. An adequate supply of biotin can thus help maintain the body’s natural metabolic balance and provide nutritional support for hormone-dependent processes.

Calcium

Calcium D-pantothenate (vitamin B5) is a component of normal energy metabolism and plays a role in various physiological processes in the body. An adequate intake can provide nutritional support, particularly during periods of increased stress.

Folic Acid

Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) is an essential B vitamin that must be obtained through feed. It supports normal cell metabolism and is involved in the synthesis of nucleic acids, which are important for the function of the nervous system.

L-Tryptophan

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that plays a role in protein metabolism, among other things, and is known as a precursor to the body’s own neurotransmitters. During periods of hormonal changes or increased nervous stress, an appropriate supply of tryptophan can support internal balance through nutritional means—especially in sensitive or stress-prone mares.

Black cohosh extract

Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is a traditional forage plant containing phytochemicals. In equine nutrition, it can support hormonal balance and overall well-being—particularly in mares or older horses during hormonally sensitive phases.

Lavender extract

Lavender extract contains natural essential oils and is traditionally used in horse feed. It can support the nervous system and overall well-being through nutrition—especially in cases of restlessness caused by diet or housing conditions.

Withanolides

Withanolides are phytochemicals naturally found in the root of the Ashwagandha plant (Withania somnifera). In horse feeding, Ashwagandha is traditionally used as a supplement to nutritionally support inner balance during nervous tension or hormonal fluctuations – especially for sensitive horses or during periods of increased stress.

Product Questions

How many days does one bottle of Mare Active last?

For large horses (standard daily dose of 30 ml), one bottle of Mare Active will last about 1 month. For small horses or ponies (standard daily dose of 15 ml), one bottle will even last about 2 months.
For acute issues, you can also increase the dose to 60 ml daily (Large Horse) or 30 ml daily (small horse and pony) over a period of several weeks.

Should Mare Active be fed long-term or as a course?

That depends entirely on the mare's needs. Many customers use it as a supplemental feed during estrus (up to 6 bottles per year). In cases of chronic imbalance, Mare Active can be fed on a long-term basis as part of the mare's regular diet.

Can I prepare the daily serving of Mare Active in advance?

Yes, Mare Active perfectly suitable for meal prep. You can prepare the portion up to 24 hours in advance.

When can a change in behavior be detected?

Based on experience, customers report noticeable changes after about 10 to 14 days. Since this a liquid Complementary Feed, the ingredients are quickly absorbed by the body due to their high bioavailability.

What can I do if my mare is extremely in season or moody?

When a mare is in heat, owners notice changes in her behavior and temperament. If your mare is irritable, moody, or sensitive to touch on her belly, these may be signs that being in heat is taking a heavy toll on her. Mare Active can be fed to provide nutritional support for balance and nervous system strength when she is more excitable and has difficulty concentrating.

Can I feed Mare Active if there is a drop in performance during the heat cycle?

Many riders notice a decline in performance during the heat cycle. Thanks to its natural ingredients, such as lavender and B vitamins, Mare Active can support concentration and emotional balance.

What can I do if my mare becomes aggressive?

If a mare reacts aggressively (e.g., kicking other horses, biting when touched, or making extreme whinnying noises), this often indicates hormonal issues in the mare. Mare Active can provide nutritional support for mares throughout their entire cycle.

What other herbs support hormonal balance in mares?

In addition to chasteberry, Mare Active contains carefully selected herbal extracts and micronutrients to provide nutritional support for the typical challenges mares may experience during their cycle, including ashwagandha, lavender, sage, and B vitamins.

Can Mare Active be fed to stallions or geldings?

Yes, that’s absolutely possible. Geldings and stallions can also benefit from the harmonizing ingredients. Our customers report noticeable behavioral changes, particularly in cases of stallion-like behavior, extreme restlessness, or when a gelding still acts very “stallion-like.”

Picky Horse: What if Mare Active isn't eaten?

Mare Active is a liquid and is readily accepted by most horses. However, if your horse refuses the product, our 30-day Taste Guarantee applies. You can easily mix Mare Active into mash or moistened feed.

Is Mare Active permitted in competitive sports (doping)?

Please observe a 48-hour withdrawal period before competition to comply with the current ADMR guidelines.

Can Mare Active be fed to pregnant mares?

Due to the herbal extracts it contains, we do not recommend feeding this product to pregnant mares. It is generally suitable for all other age groups and breeds.
